What You'll Do

Principal Asset Management, a subsidiary of Principal Financial group, offers global asset management expertise across a diverse set of traditional and alternative asset classes.

 

Aligned Investors, an investment team within Principal Asset Management that has $45 billion in assets under management, is looking for an Equity Analyst to join our research team! Aligned Investors has a very successful long-term track record running two US equity strategies. Its primary funds are the Principal MidCap Fund and Principal Blue Chip Fund. The Aligned investment process involves long-term ownership of high-quality businesses that are led by owner-operators. The process relies completely on fundamental company research and is passionate about delivering outstanding returns over full market cycles.

You will have an opportunity to conduct fundamental research on US companies, monitor portfolio holdings, and make recommendations to the Portfolio Managers.  More specifically you will be able to:

  • Analyze the impact economic and industry trends have on specific investments. Provide forecast of economy for decision-making within the firm.
  • Conduct research studies on assigned group of companies and industries. Demonstrate a proven grasp on Aligned Investment's philosophy and process and consistently incorporate it into equity research. Apply company and economic analysis to project revenue and net income performance.

This is a generalist position. Experience in any sector will be considered!

Who You Are

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor’s degree or eight years equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years equity investment experience or five years strong operational experience in a company outside of the investment management field and a deep understanding of both the business and the industry in which it operates
  • MBA with finance emphasis or Chartered Financial Analyst, or equivalent work experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of firm's investment strategy and philosophy, business insight, and superior judgment

Additional preferred skills and experience:

  • Advanced Excel
  • Bloomberg or equivalent
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Be a self-starter and demonstrate understanding of economies and investment theories
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

This position may be subject to SEC restrictions on personal political contributions.

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range

$137000 - $235000 / year

Work Environments

This role offers the ability for in-office or hybrid (blending both office and remote work in a typical workweek) work arrangements. You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors. 

 

Locations:

This role will be based out of our World Headquarters located in Des Moines, IA.

 

Job level

We’ll consider talent at the next level with the right experiences and skills which would be at least 5+ years equity investment experience or twelve years strong operational experience in a company outside of the investment management field and a deep understanding of both the business and the industry in which it operates.
