What You'll Do

Within Principal Asset Allocation team, Strategists are responsible for formulating and disseminating the firms' asset allocation views on markets, economies, and investing to financial advisors, institutional investors, and internal stakeholders (i.e. investment specialists, institutional and wealth distribution teams, economic and investment committees, etc.). As a Senior Associate – Macro Strategist, you will promote and expand Principal Asset Management’s brand presence in the marketplace through creation of economic, macro, secular event research and investment strategy content for distribution to clients via the Global Insights program. Your macro strategy content will also support our Global Strategists for client engagements, conferences, and webcasts, etc.         

   

You will have an opportunity to:

  • Provide timely, responsive, in-depth macro strategy research, forecasts, analysis, and commentary with a global perspective to support Principal Asset Management's Asset Allocation investment team and Principal Asset Management's Global Insights program.
  • Analyze economic and financial market data to develop economic models through quantitative and qualitative analysis. This includes reviewing and improving the existing model inventory.
  • Develop, evaluate, and communicate global economic insights and forecasts to Principal Asset Management's Asset Allocation investment team through written research notes and presentations at weekly research meetings.
  • For Principal Asset Management's Global Insights program, write creative and engaging weekly, quarterly, and ad hoc thought capital in response to important economic and market events. as well as longer-term research insights.
  • Participate in the creation of data analysis, insights, and presentations.
  • Support the Asset Allocation Insights team in the execution of day-to-day activities including developing research ideas and research product generation.

Who You Are

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Master’s degree in Economics with at least 5 years of relevant experience (ie: an economist in the investment industry)
  • While the primary role would be to cover the US economy, a strong understanding and knowledge of global economies is necessary
  • Proficiency with Bloomberg and any additional statistical programs or other commonly used data sources
  • Outstanding written and verbal skills. An ability to articulate complex economic and market content with clarity. One of the core functions is the generation of written research, so the ability to write clear, concise, interesting and digestible thought capital pieces is critical
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation abilities
  • Creative writing skills and non-consensus thinking skills

Additional preferred skills and experience:

  • Self-driven, energetic, and creative thinker with a strong curiosity about economics and financial markets
  • Good at working in team environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team orientation; ability to work under minimal supervision in a demanding environment

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range

$123000 - $167000 / year

Work Environments

This role offers the ability for in-office or hybrid (blending both office and remote work in a typical workweek) work arrangements. You’ll work with your leader to determine which option may align best based on several factors.

 

Locations:

We’re open to considering remote and hybrid talent. Locations for hybrid talent include Des Moines, Seattle, or New York City.
